Dr Stephen Coulson

Stephen has been a research fellow at the SST-CCW since 2016. Originally a mathematician, he has over 20 years experience in Military Operations Research, the application of scientific principles to analyse problems in defence and security.

He is currently developing mathematical models to understand how the use of military intelligence affects combat. His other research interests are in higher tactical warfare, especially looking at the relationship between intelligence and fires in corps and division deep battles. He is also active in studying military strategy and decision making and is writing a biography of Field Marshal Sir John Dill.
